When MSNBC contributor Molly Jong-Fast recently tried to corner Bill Maher over measles vaccination, Maher didn’t fold.
“I had measles as a kid. I loved it,” he said. “I was home for two weeks. I ate ice cream every day.”
That was a normal childhood experience for most Americans before the 1980s, when every state began mandating the MMR shot for public schools. Since then, measles has become a catch-all boogeyman, used again and again to justify chipping away at basic liberties.
